Biography Yael Alkalay is the grandchild of the first dermatologist in Bulgaria. Her grandfather (and father) emigrated to Israel in 1954. They descended from Sephardic Jewish “grand rabbis” from Turkey, and before that, Spain. Her father also became a doctor. Her family’s connection to medicine would eventually inspire her interest in natural ingredients. Ms. Alkalay’s maternal grandfather was a gaucho in Argentina.
