Wycombe House are very proud of its Cricket Colts Section. Formed in the early 1950s by the late Ken Cross MBE. they have a long list of achievements and successes which are far too numerous to list.
Wycombe House currently holds the National record of having won the National u/13's Cricket Trophy on no less than 3 occasions. 1987, 1992 and 1999. Between 1600 and 2000 teams throughout England & Wales compete for this Trophy, this record is unequalled by any other club, this is an achievement that we are particularly proud.
Wycombe House has also the most number of players of any Middlesex Cricket Club to go onto play County Professional Cricket in recent years. Owais Shah , currently playing for England and Middlesex was a Colt playing for the Club 1n the 1992 winning team. Other Wycombe House Colts who have progressed through the Club to become professional County Cricketers are: Worcestershire and England A: Shaftab Khalid Middlesex: Ben Scott (Current Middlesex wicket-keeper), Alan Coleman, Ben Duncan, James Rodham Middlesex and Gloucestershire: Keith Tomlin Middlesex and Kent: James Hewitt Our latest colt to County Cricket is Joel Pope, who has just been awarded a 2 year contract with Leicestershire CCC. The club has produced another 17 players who have played County second XI standard and some Minor County players too. HISTORY
Wycombe House Cricket Club, was formed by members of the Hammersmith Branch of the YMCA in 1888. the name 'Wycombe House' derived from the name of the YMCA,s Hammersmith Road H.Q (long since demolished) The Club's first ground was a pitch on Wormwood Scrubs, rented from what was at that time the London County Council. The Club then played on a numb er of rented grounds in the West London Area, before arriving at its present ground in 1939. The ground was requisitioned during World War 11 as a farm for livestock and cricket did not restart until 1948, and since then the Club has gone from strength to strength, purchasing it's freehold from the Earl of Jersey in 1978 and inaugurating a new clubhouse in 1981, and recently a major refurbishment has been completed over the last 2 years. Almost unique amongst present day sports and social clubs in Middlesex, Wycombe House is run entirely by unpaid members of the Club including ground staff, bar staff and coaches etc, and a host of other duties carried out on a voluntary basis. Coupled with some generous grants from various sporting bodies this enables the management committee to run the Club on a continuing profitable basis. The Club runs 3 Saturday senior cricketing sides currently competing in the Middlesex County League, and 2 Sunday Sunday teams playing friendly games.Cricket apart, Wycombe House run 6 Tennis Teams playing in the Middlesex League, four mens and 2 ladies teams, we have 4 modern hard-courts (2 floodlit). Both adult and juniors compete in winter leagues. Wycombe House have currently between 100 - 150 colts ranging from under 9 years up to 17 years age groups, all overseen by qualified registered ECB (England & Wales Cricket Board) Coaches. We have in place a required Child Protection Policy with nominated Child Protection Officers. The Club has worked very hard in achieving the coveted 'Club Mark' a certificated award which requires clubs to put into place a number of required development plans and processes, which results in us being one of the leadin g clubs in Middlesex. All the Colts in all age groups play in local league and cup competitions, and we also have a comprehensive winter coaching programme. Some of our Coaches are taking part in the Government and ECB backed coaching scheme call 'Chance to Shine' which involves coaching cricket in local schools, as part of the school curriculum, this has resulted in the Club benefiting by obtaining some new colts. Wycombe House are currently recruiting for both Boys and Girls within the age groups mentioned, and any Colts that show a keen interest and ability are put forward by their coaches and recommended for trials with Middlesex County Colts, with the opportunity to progress in the game as others have done in the past.
