William Patrick McGovern

William Patrick McGovern (born 14 September 1982) is a historian and social justice activist. After graduating from St. John's College High School in Washington DC in 2000, he attended the University of Pittsburgh. In 2005 he graduated with Bachelor of Arts degrees in History, Philosophy, and Political Science. Currently, he is completing a Master of Arts degree in American History at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is expected to graduate in 2010.
In 2009 McGovern became a Special Researcher with the Old Economy Village Museum and Archive in Ambridge Pennsylvania, part of the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission. He also delivered a paper titled The Conservative Vice Lords: Black Nationalism in the Age of Black Power in 2009 at the Graduate History Association Forum at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. Other papers in progress include "Its Not No Popery": The Rhetorical Origins of the American Republican Party and Paddy and the Public: Visual Representations of Irish Immigrants in New York City Mass Media and Popular Culture, 1830-1860.
McGovern is also currently a Regional Coordinator for the Student Peace Alliance (SPA), serving the entire Pennsylvania-New Jersey region. The SPA is involved with the Peace Alliance, a nationwide campaign to bring about the creation of a U.S. Department of Peace. McGovern is active on university campuses across Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as in Congressional lobbying.
