Will Aitchison

Biography
Will Aitchison is a Portland, Oregon author and attorney. Aitchison graduated from the University of Oregon (Honors College) in 1973, and received his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC in 1976. After two years of clerking for the chief justice of the Oregon Court of Appeals, Aitchison entered private practice, and has represented over 100 labor organizations since that time. He has also served as both an arbitrator and a pro-tem district court judge, has contributed numerous articles to various periodicals, and has trained thousands of tens of thousands of labor and management representatives, administrators, and attorneys on the requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act and other federal and state labor laws.
Aitchison has handled FLSA lawsuits from around the country on behalf of tens of thousands of plaintiffs, recovering over $50 million in damages. He is the author of seven books: The FLSA: A User’s Manual (Fifth Edition) , The Rights of Law Enforcement Officers (Sixth Edition), The Rights of Firefighters (Fourth Edition), A Model Law Enforcement Contract: A Labor Perspective (Third Edition), A Model Firefighters Contract: A Labor Perspective, Interest Arbitration (Second Edition), and Understanding the FMLA. Aitchison has also edited a variety of books, including The Americans With Disabilities Act, written by David Snyder, and The Law of Policing , written by Randy Means. Aitchison writes for and edits Public Safety Labor News, a monthly journal published by the Labor Relations Information System. Aitchison is also the author of FLSA Cases, a blog on wage and hour cases (http://flsacases.com).
Labor Relations Information System
In 1985, Aitchison founded Labor Relations Information System, a resource on personnel issues for public safety professionals and their employers. In addition to publishing Public Safety Labor News, LRIS conducts national seminars on topics related to the employment and labor rights of public safety employees. LRIS has published ten books dealing with public safety labor and employment issues.
Class Action Litigation Management (CALM)
In 2003, Aitchison began building a software system to help manage FLSA class action lawsuits. Using the system to triage for claims, manage plaintiff interviews and phone calls, handle documents, and calculate damages, CALM helped to provide support for Aitchison’s firm. CALM’s software package is slated for public launch in Q3 of 2011.
