Weekend Revolutionaries

Weekend Revolutionaries is an electronic musical project originating in Coffs Harbour, Australia. The musical influences of the project vary from synth-pop and post-punk, to dubstep and even psychedelic rock, with much of the music on Boxes and Boomgates containing feedback, heavy reverb and delay on the guitars and lyrics influenced by surrealism. At times, Weekend Revolutionaries have even experimented with conscious hip-hop on tracks such as 'Saigon Swagger' and 'Racial Tension'. Weekend Revolutionaries currently operates without record label backing, releasing music through online distribution service TuneCore.
History
Weekend Revolutionaries began in April 2008 in Coffs Harbour, Australia. The identities of the people behind the project have not yet been revealed, and Weekend Revolutionaries have declined to play live concerts on a number of occasions, preferring instead to be an entirely studio-based band.
Recording Activity
Weekend Revolutionaries recorded their first material in February 2006 in August 2008, and an Expanded Edition was released in July 2009. The album, although never released officially, was met with some success by Triple J's Unearthed community, by whom the tracks 'Down the Back of the Fairground', 'Saigon Swagger' and 'Serf Rock' were voted into #21, #23 and #25 on the alternative charts and #113, #122 and #134 on the overall charts respectively. and Amazon MP3 among others). The album saw Weekend Revolutionaries approached by Skratch Magazine in regards to an appearance on their 14th Anniversary Sampler (which Weekend Revolutionaries declined). The album was released in physical form through CD Baby on January 1, 2010. The sound of the album differed greatly from the more pop-rock oriented Trouble in Paradise, and saw the band explore a darker sound.
The digital single 'Open' was released on the same day as the physical version of Boxes and Boomgates (1 January 2010) through iTunes and Amazon MP3 among others. The single saw yet another change in direction for the band, who chose to explore a reverb-soaked acoustic sound (recalling earlier tracks 'Inland Sea', 'Permafrost' and 'Outside'). Weekend Revolutionaries were offered to tour northern New South Wales with another unsigned band, MTTNS, but once again declined.
The period between August 2009 and February 2010 saw Weekend Revolutionaries explore a more synth-pop oriented sound, epitomised by tracks such as 'Lucid Experience', 'Haze' and 'Dreams Run Dry'. It was revealed in late-January that the third Weekend Revolutionaries album would be entitled Coastal Mentality and that the sound of the album would combine 'catchy pop melodies with downtempo ambient sounds' and would contain '14 tracks of ethereal synth-pop and introspective ambient music'
