Wanda Metropolitano, is a football stadium in the east of Madrid, Spain, which is currently under construction. It will host the matches of Atlético Madrid starting from the second half of 2017, replacing the Vicente Calderón Stadium as their home venue. Overview The stadium is being constructed on the location of Estadio La Peineta which was designated as the Olympic Stadium of Madrid. Atlético Madrid announced that the official name of the stadium will be Wanda Metropolitano: Wanda for sponsorship reasons and Metropolitano by the name of the historical stadium which hosted Atlético's matches before Vicente Calderón. After its completion, the stadium will be able to accommodate 73,729 spectators, of which all spectator seats will be covered by the new roof. It is accessed by Estadio Olímpico Station of Line 7 of the Madrid Metro. On, February 28, 2014, the Madrid City Council unanimously approved to rename the avenue that leads to the stadium after Luis Aragonés.
