Walter Schaller is an Associate Professor at Texas Tech University, who as vice president of the Faculty Senate, wrote and circulated a four-page petition opposing the hiring of Bob Knight by Texas Tech. His basis for this opposition was a belief that it would result in negative publicity for the school. He is a member of the Texas Tech Philosophy Department, and specializes in political philosophy and ethics. He has published ten peer-reviewed articles on Kantian ethics, utilitarianism, the relationship between virtues and duties, and has served on the APA Committee on Teaching Assessment of Philosophy Programs.
