Lawsuit
A lawsuit was filed against the Walker County Humane Society in May 2009 by Marcus Campbell after his Boxer was allegedly wrongly euthanized. Lane Reno, the director of the Walker County Humane Society, allegedly had the dog euthanized due to aggressive behavior. On May 23, 2009, the Daily Mountain Eagle quoted Reno as stating:
We checked our tapes and the dog was brought in around 3:30 Tuesday afternoon by an elderly couple. They (elderly couple) had to bring him here in a pet taxi that they had to borrow from us. The dog would not come out of the carrier so we had to use a capture pole. That is when he became aggressive.

Reno's account of this incident has been refuted by surveillance video which shows the Boxer showing no signs of aggression while being led on a leash.
A foster care rescue service in Walker County, Barks N Bones Rescue, reports that it hears from dog owners who don't want to take their pet to the humane society out of fear that the dog would be euthanized rather than rehomed.
H. Anthony Sparks, senior vice president of the Bank of Walker County, has served as president of the Walker County Humane Society.
