The Waismann Method of Rapid Detox (Accelerated Neuro-Regulation) is a medical opiate detoxification procedure that treats dependencies to opiates, including heroin, morphine, OxyContin, Hydrocodone, Darvocet, Fentanyl and Percocet. Launched in the United States in 1997, this rapid detox program recognizes opiate dependence as a disorder of the central nervous system caused by continual use of opiates. The Waismann Method involves the administration of medications to reverse the physiological dependence on opiates while the symptoms of withdrawal are addressed. Patients in the program sleep comfortably for a short time under deep sedation while medications cleanse the opiates from the brain’s opiate receptors. This method induces and speeds up the withdrawal, pushing all the opiates out of the receptor sites with a blocking agent, eliminating the unnecessary suffering. Unlike traditional detox treatments, this method “gets the patient through detoxification without the painful and debilitating effects of prescription drug withdrawal.” The Waismann Method is performed by Dr. Michael Lowenstein in the intensive care unit of a fully-accredited hospital in Long Beach, California. Dr. Lowenstein is co-director of the Waismann Method and Diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology and the American Board of Pain Medicine . Each patient that goes through The Waismann Method undergoes a full physical health evaluation and receives treatment based on his or her medical history, overall health, physical condition and opiate use. Pre-treatment screening and tests include an EKG, chest x-ray, heart rate assessment, stabilization of vitals, and kidney and liver function tests. With the Waismann Method, patients return to their productive life within days instead of weeks, as with many traditional detox methods. After-care is closely monitored and patients are prescribed a daily dose of non-addictive Naltrexone, an opiate inhibitor, for up to one year after the Waismann process. Naltrexone eliminates physical cravings for opiates. Domus Retreat is a licensed after-care facility, offering specialized care for patients who have just been treated for opiate dependency with the Waismann Method procedure. The transition program at Domus is facilitated by a team of professionals who work with patients on mental and physical needs. References:<references/>
