Viktor Pogadayev

Pogadaev Victor Aleksandrovich (born November 20, 1946 in Sakmara, Orenburg Region, Russia) is a Russian historian, Orientalist, and translator. Graduated from Institute of Oriental Languages, Lomonosov Moscow State University (1970). PhD (1976). He specializes in the history and culture of South-East Asia and translates literary works from Malay and Indonesian into Russian and vice versa. He is also a noted lexicographer. Since 2001 Assoc. Professor of University of Malaya. In 2009 was selected as one of the Top 100 Educators by the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England. Published more than 200 scientific books and papers. Is active in the field of Literary Translation. He is a member of the board of Nusantara Society, a member of Russian Geographical Society, Russia's Union of Journalists, a life member of Malaysian Association of Modern Languages, a member of the editorial Board of the Jurnal Bahasa, Sastera dan Budaya "Pendeta" (Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Malaysia) and the academic journal "Folklore and Folkloristics".
