Varun Singh

Varun Singh is the founder and CEO of ScaleArc, a database infrastructure software company, based out of California, that is funded by various notable venture capital firms such as Nexus Venture Capital, Trinity Ventures, and Accel Partners.
He was earlier the Founding-CTO of Web18, the online arm of Network 18 and Executive Editor for Technology at Network18. He has also hosted technology themed TV shows such as Tech 2.0 aired on CNBC-TV18 and CNN IBN, as well as Technoholik on Economic Times Now.
Career
He started a dial-up BBS called VRNet in 1996 while still in school, and wrote as a freelance writer on topics like hardware hacking, PC overclocking and Linux for PC Quest magazine (India).
He did a brief stint as an intern at PC Quest Labs after finishing his schooling, and soon moved to CHIP Magazine where he tested and wrote reviews on Software and Operating Systems. He also wrote cover-stories on Windows ME / XP launches, the Linux vs. MS battle and regularly contributed to the “Drool Maal” section of the magazine that focused on high-tech photogenic gizmos and gadgets.
He also contributed to Network Computing magazine, and wrote on topics such as Network Management, Communication Protocols, and Return on Investment in a technology infrastructure. He also worked as a Chief Implementer for the Network of the Future showcase at the CTO Forum 2002, an enterprise technology show, building a fully operational network and data center for use at the event.
He joined the IT Nation Group in 2003 where he was Editor of Techtree.com and also set up CXOtoday.com .
Open Source
Varun also presented at the Web Innovations Conference on scaling Web 2.0 infrastructure with open source software. Varun has been a very public Linux and open source software advocate, and has, on numerous occasions, focused on making Linux more accessible to the masses.
