First Run was the first dog park established in Manhattan, New York City, United States. It was established by the community and is still maintained and supported through civic and corporate donations. History The name of the park is derived from the location of the park, and the fact that it was the first dog park established by the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation. The park was established partially in an attempt to improve the neighborhood. Initial attempts to establish the dog park were met with resistance. The Parks department eventually allowed the creation of the park, provided that it was managed entirely by the community. Special events Halloween parade Every year the Friends Of First Run celebrate Halloween by throwing a huge party for dogs and dog owners. The famous Halloween parade features hundreds of dogs dressed up in various costumes, competing for prizes. There is also a raffle held to help raise money to renovate the dog run.
