Gabriel Calzada Alvarez is an associate professor of economics at King Juan Carlos University, a post he has held since 2004, as well as associate professor of economics at IE University. He also founded the Instituto Juan De Mariana in 2005, and is currently its president. he is best known for publishing studies regarding the alleged detrimental economic effects of green energy. On September 24, 2009, following the media attention surrounding a study, uploaded to the Internet in March of that year, purportedly documenting that for every green job created by public investment, 2.2 jobs elsewhere in the economy were destroyed (a study later cited by Ron Paul as well as Mitt Romney's energy plan for the 2012 election), he was invited by James Sensenbrenner to testify before the House Select Committee on Energy Independence. The study received a considerable amount of attention, for instance from Fox News Channel.
