Vanessa Jayne Rogers is a British author of non-fiction resource books for youth workers, connexions workers, participation officers, teachers and voluntary sector youth leaders published by the National Youth Agency and Jessica Kingsley Publishers. She is a consultant and speaker who regularly writes handbooks and resource packs for Local Authorities, Charities and BBC. As a trainer, Rogers leads conferences in youth safety. She also writes a monthly feature for Youth Work Now. Based in Hertfordshire, England, Rogers worked briefly as a teacher, before qualifying as a youth worker at Leicester's De Montfort University, achieving a Master's Degree in community education. Prior to becoming a youth work consultant, author and trainer, she held senior positions with Hertfordshire County Council. She is a regular features writer for Young People Now and has been commissioned by the BBC to create support materials for two of their major BBC3 series; The Baby Borrowers and Underage and Pregnant. As a consultant, Rogers has been tasked with engaging young people in youth governance and consultation in ways that are both meaningful and worthwhile. Vanessa’s resource books are a toolkit for people who work with young people aged 11-19. Supporting the Youth Work Curriculum, they include creative ideas and form the basis of her interactive training courses. Included in each book are specific suggestions for group and one-to-one work as well as ideas for engaging with traditionally hard-to-reach groups, including NEET and those considered vulnerable or ‘at risk’.
