UTMC Development Group

A key element within the Department for Transport (DfT) Urban Traffic Management and Control (UTMC) Programme was to facilitate the development and implementation of UTMC systems by establishing a UTMC Development Group (UDG). The role of the UDG was to ensure steer the UTMC initiative in a way which was technically and commercially practical, met the needs of public authorities, and fulfilled the initiative's principles of openness, modularity, flexibility and maximising the use of mainstream technologies.

History

Following an announcement at the 6th UTMC Annual Conference in December 2002, a plenary meeting to elect the Local Authority led Management Group, and to agree the UDG terms of reference took place in London on Thursday 6 February 2003. A UTMC Suppliers Forum (USF) was subsequently established to work closely with the policy driven UDG Management Group.

Since then, the private sector has become successively more engaged within the UDG, and now has seats on both the UDG Management Group and on the Specifications and Standards Group, which is responsible for maintaining national UTMC specifications as universal open publications.

Membership

The UDG is a community body which is open to all organisations. As of November 2007 there is no membership fee.
