Usman Bhaimia

Usman Gani Ismael Bhaimia (born January 3, 1948 in Chennai, India) is a British politician and businessman. He holds a Councillorship for the Liberal Democrats Party, and serves as non executive Chairman of Benedict and Cadbury,the investment conglomerate founded by his grandfather in 1913. He is consistently and famously known for creating and going down in History in the City of Gloucester, by being elected as the first Muslim Councillor.
Life
Usman Bhaimia was born in Madras (now known as Chennai), India, to Ismael Bhaimia and Dulari Bhaimia. He is the fourth of seven children. His father was a prominent share and stock trader who prospered during the demise of the British East India Comapany's rule of the region.
After graduating with a degree in English Literature, he arrived in Preston, England at the age of 28. Shortly afterwards, marrying Bilqis, the daughter of a Burmese businessman in 1977. They have three children, Ozair, Fatima, and Aysha.
He presently resides in the City of Gloucester.
Politics
Usman Bhaimia, who joined the Liberal Democrats in 1980, made history in Gloucester when on June 10, 2004 the people of Barton and Tredworth elected their first Muslim Councillor, defeating former Labour Mayor Rose Workman.
He was again re elected in 2008 for another term.
Business
Serving as an advisor to his only son Ozair, CEO of Benedict and Cadbury, he sits on the board as Honorary Chairman.
Benedict and Cadbury plc is a British multinational conglomerate investment and holding company. Operating from its headquarters in Mayfair in London, it oversees and manages a diverse portfolio of subsidiary companies, investments, and brands, all under one corporate umbrella. It is controlled and owned by Bhaimia Investments Limited, the business arm of the Bhaimia family.
Benedict and Cadbury traces its roots to share business and stock trading activities established by Usman Bhaimia's grandfather, Ahmad Bhaimia in 1913, as a young businessman dealing with the British East India Company in Madras, South India.
His only son Ozair Bhaimia is the company's CEO. Building on the history and culture of the organisation, he incorporated the business in March 2010, and has used the "float" available to a public limited company to finance his investments and expansions.
