TrekAmerica is a UK based backpack tour company that aids travelling individuals in structuring their journey across a variety of regions around the world. History Originally established in 1972, TrekAmerica was created in London England. Jeremy James, the man behind this website, was a British banker who wanted to start a travel company dedicated to the student backpacker lifestyle. The departure of a van filled with 15 young, ambitious individuals is where it all began. From then on Trek America has developed into one of the longest and experienced small group operators in North America and is used by thousands of travellers each year. Goals Trek America is designed for the young generation, with the idea of exploring. Its unique treks include exploring not only the big cities, but the national parks and places within the community that the locals love. The tours are lead by home-grown leaders who are well informed about the area of travel, and who fit into the age of the travellers. Trek America works towards bringing young travellers together to experience a trip filled with exploration and making memories. Their beliefs lie in travelling the world in groups, and they encourage solo travellers to join, as they won’t be travelling alone any longer. In fact, more than 70% of Trek America travellers join solo. About Every Trek America trip is unique to the group of travellers. Trek America offers 50 different itineraries which can then be modified to the liking of the traveller. They explore the Unites States, Canada, Alaska, and Central America. Selecting actives and adding free time can all be decided by the traveller to best suit their needs. Trek America groups rage in size. For camping and lodging tour the groups consist of an average of 10 travellers (maximum 13), Plus tours allow for a maximum of 50 travellers with an average of 30, and the BOLT tours range from 12-16 individuals. These individuals can be traveling from a range of only 3 to a maximum of 80 days. Within the costs of the trips, all accommodations, transportation, park admission fees, leader fees, and necessary camping equipment is included, in addition to some select meals. Demographic The organization specializes their trips for the young (ages 18-38) to attract solo travellers, ensuring that they will be in a group of individuals of the same age group. They gear their marketing in this way to encourage a collective interest amongst the group; a love for travelling and exploring. Types of Trips Trek America offers four different types of trips, to appeals to different wants of the traveller. First the original tours, which is how the organization started off. This type refers to small groups, offering a road trip experience, including a lot of camping, covering the USA, Canada and Central America. Plus tours, new as of 2017, will be focusing on adventuring the road across the USA, Canada, similar to the original tour but with some extra activities added. Their Bolt tours takes the groups to explore Central and South America. This tour focusing on immersing the traveller by travelling in local and private transportation. This tour consists of more free time, and at a less costly amount than the other tours. Finally, their overland tours explore South America in overland vehicles, for soaring the land. Competitors There are many other competitors offering similar services, all ensuring a great and memorable travel experience, but all with unique features that can attract different types of travellers and their needs. * Contiki - Similar to TrekAmerica, with the same concept of exploring however offers trips in USA, Canada, Asia, Latin America, New Zealand, and Australia. * Intrepid travel - Another travel company with the same intentions, offering more destinations including, Africa, Asia, Central America, Europe, Middle East, North America, Australia and Oceania, Polar and South America. Social Media TrekAmerica can be found of different platforms of social media, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube. They use Facebook to not only attract individuals by pictures, traveller stories and updates, but also for connecting travellers with in the same group. This way group members can meet via online profile before meeting in person. Their Facebook is their biggest media platform, with over 100,000 likes on their page. On Instagram, “#trekamerica” has been used in over 50,000 posts by the everyday traveller along with well known photographers. Trek America Travel, their YouTube page, has dozens of videos promoting different types of trips, places, and actives to display the exploration side of travelling rather than a beach and hotel type of vacation. <references />
