Remote Lands is a privately held ultra-luxury Asia travel designer and tour operator based in New York and Bangkok. The company creates highly personalized bespoke holidays in Asia for high net worth individuals, often using upmarket travel agents. Remote Lands clients can fly privately with the company handling private jet charters as well as luxury yacht vacations within Asia.
Founders and financing
Remote Lands is funded by company founders Catherine Heald and Jay Tindall and San Jose, CA based Skymoon Ventures. Skymoon’s general partners are Dr. Barb Paldus, CEO of Finesse Inc., and Dr. Mike Farmwald, a Silicon Valley entrepreneur who founded publicly traded technology provider Rambus. Skymoon completed its third round of investment in Remote Lands in April 2009. Remote Lands founders and staff have backgrounds in other fields including technology, art, publishing and journalism.
Services
Remote Lands designs tailor-made vacations customized to the specific preferences of its clients based on detailed questionnaires and personal interviews. It specializes in choreographing one-of-a-kind experiences that include privileged access to exclusive events and prominent people in Asia, such as government leaders, Asian nobility, famous artists and leading businessmen. Clients stay in high end hotels and luxury resorts such as, including Amanresorts, Mandarin Oriental, Oberoi Hotels & Resorts, and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.
Clients
Remote Lands caters to demanding HNWI’s including celebrities, dignitaries and Fortune 500 executives. Remote Lands is a tour operator that sells direct to consumers (B2C) as well as business-to-business (B2B) to upmarket travel agents.
Destinations
Clients travel to Asian destinations including Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, North Korea, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
Philanthropy
15 percent of the company’s profits go to support Asian NGO’s such as the Tarayana Foundation in Bhutan, the PAK Orphanage Project in Indonesia, Agape Home in Sri Lanka and the Sage Foundation in Cambodia. Remote Lands clients regularly visit and contribute to schools, orphanages and other charities throughout Asia.
