Jera uses this first scene with humor to allow readers to enjoy the book and entice them to read more, a common tactic with writers that is usually used to compensate for poor grammer later on. The two characters so far are a telepathic cloked man and shape shifting woman in form of a wolf who convese about ways to capture the child before agreeing to return to their Camp. David, roughly 19, is riding a motorbike towards a meeting with friends at an old castle for a camp out but as he is driving a wolf steps onto the road and refuses to move forcing him to steer of road into a tree log that trows him through the air "I flew through the air, seeing hard tarmac beneath me awaiting the contact with head and ground, until impossibly i twisted in the air and landed hard, on my feet!" This is related later during the wolf - man conversation where she makes a quip about almost being killed. David arrives on foot to the castle but is wary to tell his friends of the incident. During the night the cloaked man and wolf emmerge from the forrest and both parties seem equally surprised to find the other and a fight brakes out. David is thrown down by the wolf but as she pounces at his friend Jessica David throws a rock with such force it knock the wolf over the side of the high castle wall and to the ground beneath. The cloaked man witnesses this and begins to fire Magic at him which David finds he is able to deflect. As they progress deeper into the castle David unleashes a torrent of Magic and causes a cave in, the cloaked man appears to be dissolved by the blinding light emmited and david falls into the darkness. Blinded by dust David begins deeper down the Castle calling with no return for Michael until a glint in the ground catches Jessica's eye. It is a ring attached to Michaels hand, David standing meters away notices michael's legs jutting out from a pile of rocks... Spoilers Jera was almost forced to read the beggining of the second chapter as a fan snatched the book from his hand and began shouting facts from the book which included Michaels hand being found, David learning to fly, a fight involving an un-named foe magically bouncing off walls and the Cloaked Man's name is Artimis and he "Bore His fangs deep into my arm which lead readers to believe he is a vampire and David will become one - before police subdued the fan and dragged him away.
