Overview
The Tamara Coorg is a luxury resort located in Coorg also known as Kodagu, which has earned the moniker of Scotland of India. Lying in the Western Ghats with forested plantations of Coffee, Cardamom, Pepper & hill ranges with evergreen forests, this region is one of the biodiversity hotspots in the world.
Etymology
In Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu (the best known regional languages of Southern India), the word 'Tamara' denotes the lotus flower.which is symbolic of purity and divinity often associated with the forested hills of Coorg.
Sustainable Tourism Practices
The Tamara Coorg resort is the first resort in the region, to adopt a full-fledged waste management programme called 'Manthan'. Under this programme, waste is segregated into recyclable and Biodegradable waste material. The latter is used to produce organic manure that is used in the coffee plantation, which cultivates the Arabica and Robusta varieties of coffee.
