The Ran-Tan Waltz are a self described post punk influenced indie rock band from Wakefield, England. The band name is taken from the Kate Bush b-side of the same name. Ran-Tanning, a community’s means of mass-expression against villagers who’d caused offence or committed a crime, was custom in England up until as late as the 1920’s, which the band consider to be the earliest form of punk. They describe their music as personal and political, writing music about people and for people that are culturally, socially and politically aware. History Radio The Ran-Tan Waltz have been played on national radio several times. The first in April 2009 on a local radio station in California, which they now have a regular slot on. The second on August 23, 2009, the track "The Dogs of Dewsbury" was played on Tom Robinson's BBC Introducing show. On January 20, 2010, the track "New Grub Street" was played on West Yorkshire's Raw Talent on BBC radio Leeds. "The Beat Generation" was played on West Yorkshire's Raw Talent on February 10, 2010. Media On the 27th August 2009, the band featured in the Pontefract and Castleford Express. Room Thirteen Music Magazine described the Democracy Has Been and Died EP as an interesting and promising record, "leaving you in no doubt as to their political and social angle; this is a band not afraid to speak its mind". Kitsch n Sync Record Label said of the EP, "The lyrics are fresh as they're not obvious, and the vocals are strong and stand out well. The music has some real substance". You can now buy the "Them That Help Themself, Do Themself More Good" EP on iTunes. Live Performances Known for their energetic and unpredictable live shows the band have built-up a small following around the Wakefield and Leeds area, due to extensive touring since forming. They played their first show at York's "Fibbers" on the 10th July 2009, where they only brought 16 people of the allocated 30, and the performance descended into an anarchic demolition of equipment, thus told they couldn't return. Since then they have toured many cities up and down the country, including Sheffield, London and Leeds. The band have a regular monthly slot at Wakefield's Bodega Bar.
