Falling Into Difference

Falling Into Difference (FID) are a British acoustic duo from Bristol, England formed in early 2008. The duo were founded as a follow up band when Bristol based supergroup Fate By Chance split in 2007. Lead singer and poet, Lewis Martyn Woodford Vaughan, and lead guitarist, Mark Sculthorpe, formed FID following this difficult and troublesome break up. FID's line-up has remained unchanged throughout the several months since their founding and ever growing success.
The band's trademark sound was created by blending 1990's emo rock with 19th century poetry. Moreover, Vaughan incorporated his well-known, unconventional vocal melodies into this mix. As with Fate By Chance, the band prided themselves on the fact that all sounds on their albums were produced using only guitar and vocals; no talent was ever used.
FID are currently touring and promoting their first EP, three's company.
History
Background
Lewis Martyn Woodford Vaughan was born in Chepstow, Wales (this fact is disputed, citing evidence to either Lewisham, London or Brixton, London) in 1983. His childhood was spent here, and whilst a devoted student, Vaughan's passion for the arts was apparent to the entire town, leading to him being labelled an "artistic polymath". It was reported that the majority of his time was spent consumed in drama, dancing, singing, and his various compositions of poetry, film scripts and music. In 2005, Vaughan was introduced to future bandmate, Mark Sculthorpe, through a mutual friend whilst they were working at a local supermarket. The pair hit it off immediately and became firm friends, sharing much common ground. It is little know that within this period, the two formed an original duo named Two Welsh Bunzes, although this was purely an outlet for their talent, and neither placed any faith or hope in its progression.
In 2006, Vaughany and Mark, teamed up with local talent in the person of Sam Rogers and Dave "Spazz" Tennessee to form the four-piece rock outfit Fate By Chance. The band exploded onto the Bristol music scene and attracted professional, and infamous, Bristol manager . With the success of the band growing daily, in early 2007, the stress of a busy schedule and record label pressures led to several internal disputes within the band, with its conclusion being the dissolution of the band in 2007.
Formation (2008)
FID's history can be traced back to June 14, 2007, when it was announced that bassist, Sam, and drummer, Spazz, were leaving Fate By Chance to pursue solo careers. The news came as a huge shock to the legions of FBC fans, leading to the setup of a dedicated phone line, in July 2007, for broken hearted fans. Reports indicate that the line received in excess of three calls in it's first month. Upon the announcement, Vaughan vowed to continue writing and recording new material with Mark Sculthorpe in what proved a controversial decision to the FBC fans.
A period of relative silence from the band members followed, until in January 2008, it was announced that Vaughan and Mark had formed the new acoustic duo, Falling Into Difference, with the now infamous words...

The news was met with huge critical acclaim.
three's company
In February 2009, FID began work on their much anticipated first studio album. The new direction that the duo would take was hotly debated, even amongst themselves, until eventually Vaughan's authority weighed the scales in favour of a purely acoustic EP demonstrating his full range of abilities. The three track EP took a mere two days to write and record, a testament to FID's dedication to quality. The title of the album was also a topic of much speculation and rumour, and on March 3, 2009, FID announced, on their website, that it was to be named three's company, thereby ending the rampant speculation. The band revealed the difficulty in this choice and how several titles were rejected as unsuitable, such as two's a crowd and four is too many. Vaughan himself described the album as "wholly inspired by the work of Will Smith and Fred Durst, combining the raw and pure lyrics of the former, with all the musical genius of the latter". Since its release, the EP has featured regularly in ASDA's Top 10 Deli Albums and local radio. Current sales trends indicate that three's company is set to go double Brass by 2011.
The Future
FID are currently promoting their latest EP, as well as touring aggressively across England. Their recents gigs have met with high praise from all parts of Bristol and Weston-super-Mare. In addition, FID are working on their follow up album, which promises to be "an eclectic mix of all the tools at our disposal, ie. guitars and raw vocals". Vaughany is also rumoured to be expanding his vast poetry compilation and writing a movie script which is believed to be based on a documentarial take on the founding of the band.
Label Interest
There has been major interest from various record labels in recent months regarding the two piece outfit, with Vaughan quoted as saying "we are assessing our options at the moment, we need to make sure we sign to a label that shares our vision for FID". It has been rumoured in the local press that current forerunners are Helvie Jones Productions (no affiliation to Peter Jones) and Swansea based label Funtelroy. However, at present, FID remain unsigned.
Impact
FID have had a profound and immediate impact upon the Bristol music scene. Following several recent tours of well established venues in south west England, the duo have received widespread praise within the media. Fans have described the tour as "an electrifying blend of strained vocals and repetitive guitar riffs", as well as "the most promising and talented band to come out of Bristol since Fate By Chance". The release of the new EP, three's company, saw a wave of interest from regional and national media outlets, and has led to FID's inclusion at several music festivals across south England and Wales. Their website also features rumours of an open mic night to be held at an, as yet, unannounced date.
