The Nostalgia Chick

The Nostalgia Chick is a spin-off show for the Nostalgia Critic created by Lindsay Ellis for Channel Awesome's That Guy with the Glasses. The show is about a female counterpart of the Nostalgia Critic called the Nostalgia Chick, in which she reviews old nostalgic movies intended for young girls.
The series was created in 2008 when Doug Walker announced that he was in need for a Spin-off character, He created a video stating that he is looking for a female that could take part in the series. The winners where announced on September 15, 2008 and it was a three-way tie with Lindsay Ellis, Krissy Diggs (That Chick with the Goggles) and Kaylyn Dickson (Marzgurl). Doug announced that Lindsay won the contest and the other winners will have their own section on the site.
The series premiered on the site with a review of Disney's Pocahontas.
History
Over the summer of 2008, the The Nostalgia Critic put out a search for a female counterpart. After the contest was over, it turned out that counterpart would be none other than Lindsay Ellis a.k.a. TheDudette a.k.a. The Nostalgia Chick. Several episodes have been produced by Lindsay.
The show started out much like that of her male counterpart. The only difference was that She reviewed the shows and movies targeted to female audiences since Doug had never watched them growing up. In fact, that was how the search for the Nostalgia Chick began. In August 2008, Doug got tired of getting requests for shows he never saw since he is a guy. So, a contest was held to find the Nostalgia Chick. Lindsay won and her show premiered the following day.
Production
After a few episodes, her friends Antonella Inserra and Elisa Hansen, among others, became involved on the production of the show. Antonella took the name of a character she named Nella, this character in particular is often Lindsay's beleaguered best friend, appearing in videos alongside her friend along with Elisa.
The costume of the Nostalgia Chick initially included a pair of glasses and a bow tie worn as a choker. Ellis wore the glasses to disguise the tired appearance of her eyes in her submission. They were never real and their appearances diminished due to her losing them. The glasses were eventually stolen from Ellis' car in Brooklyn and no longer appear in the show. The bow tie was left over from Ellis' appearance in a production of Cabaret while studying at New York University (she played the accordion). Early episodes include the closing catchphrase "I remember it because the dudes don't" (based on the Nostalgia Critic's "I remember it so you don't have to"). Ellis eventually dropped this as it seemed anti-feminist; it gave the impression that the subject was being reviewed by a woman because it was not important enough to be reviewed by a man. After requesting submissions for a new catchphrase, Ellis decided against using any catchphrase in her work.
After a few years into the show, the Nostalgia Chick drifted away from acting as a direct female counterpart to the Nostalgia Critic. In the process, she abandoned routines she had previously taken from his series. Her videos now spend more time critiquing the subject than summarizing it. Several of her friends get to shine as original characters. Lindsay also no longer limits herself to girly shows and movies and has done reviews on more male targeted films such as Micheal Bay's 1998 film Armageddon and Transformers: The Movie
As the Nostalgia Chick, Lindsay also teamed up with Doug's Nostalgia Critic to review Ferngully: The Last Rainforest and in the One Year anniversary brawl which featured the Angry Video Game Nerd and a Majority of TGWTG shows, she has also appeared in the Kickassia, Suburban Knights and To Boldly Flee crossover movies to celebrate the 2nd, 3rd and 4th years of That Guy with the Glasses.

Story Lines
Similar to Atop the 4th Wall, The Nostalgia Chick has had at least one story line in her show involving the character Nella dying and being being reincarnated as an evil being simply called Dark Nella.
Dark Nella Saga
In the story line. Nella met her demise during the Nostalgia Chick's video "Kirk vs. Picard," after getting crushed by a ladder. Later, The Nostalgia Chick reviewed the X-Men cartoon without her, a character named Dr. C. Tease offered to clone Nella back to life. She declines the offer, and then went for a lonely walk. During her walk, she encountered Dark Nella for the first time. Dark Nella not only acts more evil than the original Nella, but also a higher level of self-confidence. Her crimes include trying to kill Lindsay's friends, stuffing her in a refrigerator, and terrorizing national landmarks.
Lindsay's first attempt at turning Dark Nella back to normal involved performing witchcraft with another character named Makeover Fairy and a goth girl. After this failed, Dark Nella performed a hateful review of Tron. The real Nella's love for the movie allowed her to return, but only temporarily. Nostalgia Chick's next attempt to get rid of Dark Nella involved leading her friends (who had each evaded death one way or another by this point) in a performance of "Seize the Day" from Newsies. As Nella remembered the "fangirl squee" the movie elicited in her, she argued with Dark Nella over the morality of their deeds, and finally exploded.
Nostalgia Chick then took a lonely walk by the beach, and witnessed the original Nella emerge from the ocean. She explained that she had spent the past few months in an underwater "protective healing cocoon", while an evil clone of her tried to learn more about humanity. Reunited in white, Lindsay and Nella walked off together, ending the story line.
Later, Dark Nella is alluded to during Nostalgia Chick's review of Jem and the Holograms: when Nella's glasses are removed, for a moment she appears to begin to revert to the persona of Dark Nella, taking on the voice and sending Nostalgia Chick and The Makeover Fairy into a panic to get the glasses back on her face. When the glasses are replaced, Nella returns to normal.
Critical Reactions
The Nostalgia Chick was met with positive reviews on That Guy with the Glasses. She has made several appearances on the Nostalgia Critic, Atop the 4th Wall and The Spoony Experiment. She has also been seen to have a relationship with fellow TGWTG contributor Todd in the Shadows, in which on his show the Nostalgia Chick usually stocks and tries to gain his attention by seducing him in many ways.
