ThatGuyWithTheGlasses

Doug Walker, known as ThatGuyWithTheGlasses, is a comedian/filmmaker who has gained a fanbase with various series created and hosted on his website.

On YouTube

In early 2007, Walker made his first YouTube account. The account consisted of exclusively one-shot sketches, usually parodies of commercials. Early on, he started 5-Second Movies, a series that takes well-known films and shortens them down to a few important scenes for comedic effect. Some people have criticized the series of shorts because they are usually longer than five seconds. Doug responds to people who say this with "The point is not that they are five seconds, but that they are funny, short, and entertaining.".

ThatGuyWithTheGlasses

In September 2007, when 20th Century Fox was deleting clips from Family Guy episode Blue Harvest for copyright infridgement and found Walker's 5-Second Movies based on Fox-released films and reported him to YouTube, whom suspended his account. A month later, he came back, this time he gave every video their own channel to avoid studios taking down whole accounts. In April 2008, he made his own website ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com, which now carries all his videos. In June 2008, all his accounts were suspended. Doug says that this actually worked in his favor, as people are now forced to come to his website to watch his videos, increasing his ad revenue, and he will actually be making more money.

The Nostalgia Critic

In July 2007, ThatGuy's first regular series where he appears on camera, The Nostalgia Critic, debuted on YouTube. The Nostalgia Critic character is never given an actual name and is essentially in essence an exaggerated version of Walker. A pilot of sorts showed the character very excitedly reviewing Transformers and following that up with a more deadpan review of the teaser for Cloverfield. But starting with his third review of Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue, the Critic became more loud, ambrasive and easily frustrated, traits the character has held since. As his name implies, the Nostalgia Critic reviews film from 1980s and 1990s generally remembered by his generation as being letdowns. Among the films he has reviewed include Batman & Robin, The Wizard, Pokemon: The First Movie and Space Jam. The Nostalgia Critic has also made a continuing series regarding an online battle between him and fellow YouTube celebrity The Angry Video Game Nerd.

Bum Reviews

Following the founding of ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com, a second regular series Bum Reviews appeared. Nearly every week, Chester A. Bum reviews current releases. (Speed Racer, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, ect.)In one case, Chester made an appearance in one of the "Ask ThatGuy" segments, because ThatGuy had a heart attack because of a screamer. For a short time, these reviews were posted on xomba.com, but it didn't generate the views Doug and his team expected, and so they are now only being showed on ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com.

Angry Video Game Nerd vs Nostalgia Critic

On April 18, 2008 the Nostalgia Critic started a "war" with the The Angry Video Game Nerd, by ranting about how The Nerd reviewed The Wizard before he did. He then made a follow up video on his website the next day, responding to the Angry Video Game Nerd's forum post on ScrewAttack. The Nerd was actually complimenting the Nostalgia Critic on his videos, saying they were "hilarious" and that they "brought him to tears". The Nostalgia Critic decided that there must be a "hidden meaning" in the comment.

On June 12, 2008 the Angry Video Game Nerd responded to the Nostalgia Critic's videos, saying that "No matter how many YouTube channels you create, am the domination of the internet!".

Three days later, the Nostalgia Critic posted a response to this video, saying that because The Nerd posted a link to his site, lots of The Nerd's fans came on to the Critic's site, which caused him to shut it down for a couple of days.

On June 28, The Nerd went to Digital Press, in Clifton, New Jersey to sign autographs and compete in a gaming competition, along with Captain S. The Nostalgia Critic unexpectedly showed up after a seventeen hour drive from Chicago. The Nerd, Nostalgia Critic, and Captain S all had a "slow motion fight" in the parking lot, with Doug's brother ("The Other Guy") recording it. After the fight was over, the Nostalgia Critic told The Nerd that he had to review the worst nostalgic move he could find, and The Nerd told the Nostalgia Critic he had to review the worst video game he could find. Both reviews are presumably still in production, as neither have been released yet.
