The Mannerings of Terenure

Introduction
The Mannering Family of Terenure is a well known family that originated in Terenure, County Dublin, Republic of Ireland. At their height, the family was a major real estate and business owner in Terenure. However, the family's wealth and stature declined in the first half of the 20th century. Beginning in the 1960s, the Mannerings regained prominence in New York by establishing itself in the fields of real estate, international commerce, technology, law and the arts. They have been a point of pride for residents of Terenure who have viewed their success as a case of locals doing well and who found motivation in their story of success lost, but regained. Of course, the family's achievements in New York coincided with the rise of John Fitzgerald Kennedy to the Presidency of the United States - a point of great Irish pride. This likely played a role in Terenure's esteemed view of the family's success in New York.
In the early 1800's a road in the town was well know as "Mannering Lane". It is likely that this was the road that had originally led to the family's Terenure farmstead which specialized in dairy. Even as the farm ceased to exist in the early 1900's, the road retained the name "Mannering Lane".
The family was featured in a 30 September 2009 article in the Dublin area weekly paper Southside People.
Henry, Christopher, Annie, Mary and Josephine Mannering are included in the http://en. .org/wiki/Census_of_Ireland,_1911 1911 National Census, available online through the National Archives of Ireland website. They were recorded residing on Terenure Road, North.
Members of the Mannering family continue to reside in Terenure today, but the bulk of the family's descendants reside in New York, USA.
