The Kimbula Project

The Kimbula Project is a Sri Lankan based online forum (not restricted to Sri Lankans) created by Dimitri M. Started on 03 Apr 2008 at 07:05 pm. The project is basically a discussion forum where members can converse or discuss a wide variety of topics History The concept for the forum was born approximately in 4 minutes. The name Kimbula (which means crocodile in Sinhala) was derived from the creators love for crocodiles. When asked "Why Kimbula?" the creator stated “Because it is purely Sri Lankan, and if you shout kimbula in a god forsaken corner of the world you'll definitely have a Lankan crawl out from somewhere.” Focus The focus of the project was to create a forum where members can discuss, share, learn and meet new people anonymously and safely with emphasis on interaction between members regardless of appearance or ideals. Members can decide for themselves if they want to further a friendship with a fellow member totally at ones discretion. Sri Lankans abroad can virtually step back into home ground for a couple of hours a day to keep home sickness away. The Project The Kimbula Project in its short life span has branched out to several areas (a few of the aspects are discussed below). The After Dark Room, The Polls, The Dine Out, Nightlife and Events sections are a few of the branches present in the project. The After Dark Room is a very popular forum consisting of clashing opinions, outrageous topics and a bunch of wicked questions. A variety of proper reviews on movies, music, technology and underrated businesses in Sri Lanka that deserve more attention is present. In the Kimbula Studio creative members can post up their work, get exposure and comments. Users can request help on any technical matters. The Kimbula Project hosts a very innovative forum - Slices of Paradise where foreigners and holiday goers can interact first hand with Lankans and get information help and reviews on places to visit, stay and avoid. Rankings The Kimbula Project runs a ranking system where each and every user gets a Kimbula related ranking depending on their contributions to the project. The ranking comes with an award picture of some sort of related Kimbula. Everyone starts off as a Kimbul Patiya and works their way across the Kimbula world to gather more experience with posts. Apart from the rankings there are karma points. Basically reputation points as seen on many forums.
