The Kelpfish

One of many legendary flats in the student-populated area of North Dunedin . Located opposite Arana College at 115 Clyde Street.

The Kelpfish is so-called in homage to the Kelpfish, a small varyingly coloured fish that sticks close to the kelp forest in the Pacific Ocean and has gained infamy among fishermen for its spectacular ugliness . This status as the "arsehole of the ocean" was seen as analogous to the flat being one of the ugliest buildings in North Dunedin. It is often mistaken for a public toilet and annually struggles for tenants due to its 9 sq/m bedrooms.

Notable Past Residents
