The Great Teys

The Great Teys are a lo-fi band from Columbia City, Indiana. The band's name was derived from a story The Great Teys tell at their gigs, "We have a friend that has somewhat of a speech problem and he's a bit of a perv. Every time he sees a girl, he would always comment on her boobs; funny thing is that when he says "She has great titties" it would sound like, "She has great teys" and we needed a band name and that was funny and stupid, but we liked it." They have been playing music for nearly nine years and started the band in 2005. The band consists of Wes Clapp (guitar and vocals) and Ryan Tope (drums, backing vocals). Wes and Ryan met as kids, both having grown up in the small town of Columbia City.

The Band and the Music

The Great Teys call their genre "90's alternative mixed with indie rock." They have played at numerous small clubs and fairs around the midwest and intend to move to bigger venues in a few years. The Great Teys have been compared to The Black Keys or The White Stripes due to them having two members in their band, as do the previously said bands. The Great Teys are working on producing they're first album. Not having a record deal currently, they record all their own music at home.

Influences

Both members have been influenced by the same bands and a mixture of their own taste. The band has always had major influences and they strive to make a mix of all their favorite music together. Creating what they say is, "a style not necessarily our own, but we like to think we make a style of music all our own. Wait...that's confusing."

Members
* Ryan Tope: Ryan Tope is the drummer and backing vocals of The Great Teys. Although he has done lead vocals on rare occasions. Being a reserved person, Ryan scarcely show-boats at shows and will almost never even acknowledge the crowd at all. Due to this he has been compared to Patrick Carney: the drummer for The Black Keys that is also somewhat shy onstage. He has stated in interviews held at the concerts that he got inspiration to drum from Alex Van Halen, Tommy Lee, Neil Peart, Cozy Powell, Bobby Rondinelli, Bill Ward, Dave Grohl, John Bonham, Patrick Carney, Hamish Rosser, and others.

*Wes Clapp: Wes is the lead singer, guitarist, and occasionally uses a keyboard. He, opposite of Ryan, enjoys speaking to the audience; but never showing off and rarely introducing himself. Wes too having been interviewed, has said his influences include: Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix, Allen Collins, Jack White, Alex Lifeson, McKinley Morganfield, Dan Auerbach, Tony Iommi, Jimmy Page, and others.
