Tagish Elvis Presley

"Tagish" Elvis Presley, Jr. is a man currently resident in the Yukon, who for many years called himself Tagish Elvis, undertook to legally change his name from Gilbert Nelles to Elvis Presley. He normally chooses to dress in a manner resembling the real-life Elvis Presley, who died in 1977. He is a songwriter, artist, and a creator of Yukon promotional items.

Tagish Elvis (so named for the community of Tagish, Yukon that was his home for many years) believes that he is the reincarnation of Elvis Presley, resulting from being hit by a beam from a UFO.

Tagish Elvis has performed in Las Vegas with Chubby Checker, and currently lives in Ross River, Yukon. He is one of the Yukon's colourful characters, and is known for vexing the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Yukon court system. As a result of him filing frivolous lawsuits and failing to pay court ordered costs against him, Elvis Presley was deemed by the court to be a vexatious litigant in February 2003 and barred from starting further legal proceedings against the Government of Canada, its officers and servants. In 2005, he ran for the leadership of the Yukon Liberal Party, coming in a far distant fourth place with only five votes. In the 2006 Yukon General Election he ran as an independent in the Pelly-Nisutlin riding. He garnered 40 votes, coming in fourth place.

He released two albums Elvis Presley Still Living in 1996 and Elvis Presley Armageddon Angel in 2003.
