Johan Boyden

Johan Boyden is the General Secretary of the Young Communist League of Canada and a candidate with the Communist Party of Canada. He was born on October 16, 1980 and grew up in Prince George, northern British Columbia, Canada. Boyden is a political activist in the areas of peace, economic justice, affordable housing, tuition fees, human rights, environmental protection, immigrant, LGBTQ, transgender and Aboriginal rights and the case of the Toronto 18.
Boyden became leader of the Young Communist League of Canada in March 2007 at the 24th Central Convention of the YCL in Toronto. He has also run as a candidate for the Communist Party of Canada in 4 elections and served on student government while studying at the University of Northern British Columbia and the College of New Caledonia.
Boyden has worked as a grocery store clerk, assistant shop steward and farm labourer. He has served on the boards of several non-profit organizations and has a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology and History. In August 2008 he led a Canadian delegation to the 16th World Festival of Youth and Students in Venezuela.
Boyden ran as a candidate in the following elections:
*Canadian federal election, 2008: Boyden ran in the riding of Toronto Centre and finished 5th with 193 votes.
*Ontario general election, 2007: Boyden ran in the riding of Toronto Centre and finished 8th with 200 votes.
*Canadian federal election, 2006: Boyden ran in the riding of Toronto Centre and finished 5th with 120 votes.
*Canadian federal election, 2004: Boyden ran in the riding of Davenport and finished 6th with 137 votes.
