Throughout his Jiu-Jitsu career, Sundar has had the opportunity to study extensively under many members of the Gracie family, including, Grand Master Hélio Gracie, Rorion Gracie, Relson Gracie, Rickson Gracie, Rolker Gracie, Royce Gracie, and, especially, Royler Gracie. In 2012, Sundar had the opportunity to attend a seminar taught by [http://Ryron%20Gracie http://en. .org/wiki/Ryron_Gracie]. PERSONAL LIFE Sundar is married, and, has a son who is currently a Jiu-Jitsu orange belt under his father. His son is also an active competitor in Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling. Sundar is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, and, is also noted for his academic research and writing, samples of which may be found online at Think Again. Sundar works full-time in New York City's Hedge Fund industry and has previously lectured at the University level. JIU-JITSU CAREER Sundar began training martial arts at a young age, studying traditional Japanese Karate, Freestyle & Greco-Roman Wrestling, Western Boxing, Judo and Jiu-Jitsu. He began seriously training Gracie Brasilian Jiu-Jitsu with Team Maxercise, under the tutelage of Steven Maxwell, in 1996. Steven Maxwell was the first person to bring Gracie Jiu-Jitsu to the East Coast and, at the time, was the only person on the Eastern seaboard certified to teach Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Sundar received his Blue Belt from Royce Gracie & Carlos 'Caique' Elias at Maxercise in 1996. After spending 11 years as a blue belt, Sundar went on to receive his Purple Belt from Rickson Gracie & Luiz Palhares (7th degree Red & Black Belt under Rickson Gracie) on September 7th, 2008. He received his Brown Belt from Master Royler Gracie & Professor David Adiv on October 21st, 2009. Sundar received his Black Belt from Master Royler Gracie & Professor David Adiv on April 14th, 2012 at Gracie RGDA Headquarters in Lebanon, NJ. COMPETITION Sundar is particularly noted for not competing in contemporary Jiu-Jitsu tournaments, preferring, instead, to focus on approaching Jiu-Jitsu as an educational and philosophical discipline. In a recent interview Sundar commented, "In the contemporary Jiu-Jitsu world, we find a great deal of attention being focused on the champions of Jiu-Jitsu competitions, but, Grand Master Hélio Gracie did not create this Jiu-Jitsu merely for sport. Hélio Gracie produced this Jiu-Jitsu to empower and improve people's lives. Those values should not be drowned in the ocean of celebrity worship which is attendant upon many of the current generation's minds. So, amidst the confusion caused by the very bright light shining solely on the sport Jiu-Jitsu champions, I ask you, 'Where is the focus on those who are champions of sharing knowledge and serving others within our Jiu-Jitsu communities?'". TEACHING Sundar is renowned for his extremely thorough and academic teaching. He has been noted as unique in his ability to maintain a very relaxed and friendly rapport with his students while simultaneously being able to communicate a deep level of complex detail in the simplest of terms. Some have said, "He makes beginners feel like experts, and, reminds the experts of the importance of learning like a beginner." Sundar specializes in teaching Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in its original self-defense form, specifically as it was conceived of and developed by Grand Master Hélio Gracie. Sundar currently teaches Jiu-Jitsu at Verbeke's Martial Arts Academy as well as The Combative Arts Institute, both of which are located in Easton, Pennsylvania. He continues his own Jiu-Jitsu training under his mentor, Professor David Adiv, himself a 4th degree black belt under Royler Gracie.
