Strathclyde basketball league

A local basketball league based in Strathclyde in Scotland.
The league is affiliated with Basketball Scotland the governing body for the sport of Basketball in Scotland. The Strathclyde Basketball League is better known as the SLBA league. SLBA stands for Strathclyde League Basketball Association.

Division 1 senior men champions in the 2003/2004 season where the senior powerhouse franchises Glasgow City with 13 wins and 0 losses.Oatlands came in second place with a record of 9 wins and 4 losses and Greenock Pacers finished in third position after finishing with a record of eight wins and four losses.Paisley finished fourth,Hamilton fifth,Glasgow Storm sixth,Bellshill seventh, Troon eight and finally St mirren in last position
The rebranded Glasgow city,Glasgow D2 finished top of the league with another impressive record of 16 wins and o losses meaning that they hadn't lost a game in 2 seasons.Troon stepped up the rankings to finish in second place with a great record of 12 wins and 4 losses.Greenock again finished in third position with a record of 12 wins and 4 losses just like Troon Tornadoes.Glasgow Storm also improved their rankings in the league by finishing fourth,newly formed Glasgow Gators finished fifth,Bellshill sixth,Paiselly seventh,oatlands movved considerably down the rankings finishing in ninth position and finally Hamilton in last position with a record of 1 win and 15 losses.
In the 2005/2006 season Glasgow Storm took the top position with a finishing record of 13 wins and 1 loss.Glasgow D2 only lost 2 games but it was the first 2 losses in 3 years finishing in second place.Glasgow Gators finished in third position with 8 wins and 6 losses.Troon finished in 4th, Greenock 5th,Bellshill 6th, Oatlands 7th and finally new team Bullets with a record of 1 win and 13 losses.
the 2006/2007 season saw Glasgow D2 take the top spot once more with another impressive record of 13 wins and 1 loss.Glasgow Storm stepped down a place into second place with a record of 13 wins and 1 loss just like D2. PSG Gators finished in third with a record of 9 wins and 5 losses.After Gators the finishing positions where more or less the same as normal, with Greenock in fourth,Dumbarton in fifth,Troon in sixth,Oatlands in seventh and Bellshill in eight.
In the 2007/2008 season saw Glasgow Storm back in the top spot once more with a record of 18 wins and o loss.Greenock jumped up the rankings into second and Glasgow recorded their worst finishing position in 5 years finishing in third position with a record of 10 wins and 8 losses.Cumbernauld made their debut season a good one with a record of 9 wins and 9 losses finishing in fourth place,PSG finished in fifth place, Bellshill Cardinals finished in sixth position and Oatlands finished in last place with 1 win and 17 losses.
By the 2008/2009 season the league had expanded hugely with storm entering two teams into division 1, Glasgow University entered the league for the first time and East Kilbride also entered the league for the first time.Glasgow Storm 1 won the league with 14 wins and 2 losses, Glasgow University finished second in an impressive debut with 12 wins and 4 losses and East Kilbride also in their debut season finished third with 12 wins and 4 losses just like University.
The 2009/2010 season saw the league expand yet again with the entry of the Glasgow Rocks . Glasgow University finished in the top spot with a record of 14 wins and 2 losses,the Glasgow Rocks A team finished in second position with a record of 13 wins and 3 losses and Glasgow Storm 1 finished in third position with a good record of 11 wins and 5 losses. Glasgow City finished in eighth position a far cry from their records back in the old days.
The 2010/2011 season saw Troon step up to first position with a record of 11 wins and 3 losses and Glasgow City stepped back up to their traditional finishing positions of first or second place finishing second with a record of 9 wins and 5 losses and Glasgow university finished with a record of 9 wins and 5 losses stepping down from their pedestel of a second or first place finishing position for their first few seasons.
There has been many amazing players that have played in this league over the years.Willie Cameron of Glasgow City has played professionally with London Towers in the BBL and the EURO LEAGUE as a star center. He is also the second most capped player in the country having played for both Great Britain and Scotland national squads. Ian MC Lean made a name for himself playing for the Glasgow Rocks as a pro in the premier British League.He is described as being in the top 5 greatest players ever to play for the Rocks. He made so much of an impression that his jersey was retired in order of him. He played for Glasgow Storm. Alan Kiddy Played for Glasgow City in the SLBA before signing for the Glasgow Rangers PRO team who won the 1988/1989 BBL League and Playoff championships.

The 2003/2004 season was one of the smallest leagues we have ever saw in the junior mens league which looks at under 18 players development. with only 4 teams it proved to be a short season.however Glasgow Storm finished in first place with a record of 5 wins and 1 loss. Glasgow City finished in second position with a record of 4 wins and 1 loss.St Mirren finished in third place with a record of 2 wins and 3 losses and finally Bellahouston finished in last position with no wins and 6 losses.
In the 2004/2005 season the league expanded drastically with the entry of Strathaven,Cumbernauld and east kilbride hoops.Glasgow Storm once again finished in first position with an impressive record of 12 wins and 0 losses.The rebranded Glasgow City finished in second place once again with 8 wins and o losses and St Mirren again finished in third position with a total of 6 wins and 5 losses.
Cadet Men's Teams
The teams that currently play in this league are Glasgow City, Renfrew Rocks, Cukoo b.c, St Mirren, Glasgow Rocks Academy, Ayr storm and the North Lanarkshire Wolves.The 2012/2013 season has seen the with drawl of power house Troon Tornadeos who have won the cup competitions the last two seasons.

The 2003/2004 season saw St Mirren A take the league championship with a record of 16 played games, 14 wins and only, 2 losses. Glasgow City came second with a record of 14 played games,14 wins and absolutely no losses making them the only team in the cadet league that year to do so.Glasgow Storm finished 3rd with 11 wins and 3 losses and Renfrew followed in 4th place with 6 wins and 10 losses. teams from Strathahven, Bellahouston, Cumbernauld and Paisley competed that season but no longer compete in the current SLBA cadet league.

St Mirren A took the title again in the 2004/2005 season with the rebranded Glasgow city d2 taking second place once again.Glasgow storm again finished third but this time it was Troon that finished fourth and surprisingly Renfrew finished last. St Mirren A finished with a record of 14 played games, 13 wins and one loss, Glasgow D2 finished with a record of 13 played games 11 wins and 2 losses, Glasgow Storm finished with 14 played games 8 wins and 6 losses and Troon finished with 13 played games 8 wins and 5 losses.

The 2005/2006 season was packed full of teams leading to the change in league structure with the league being split into two divisions.St Mirren Academy took the top spot in cadet league A while Glasgow Storm took the top spot in Cadet League B.Each league had 6 teams in it but only 5 played in Cadet league B as North Lanarkshire failed to play a single game.Glasgow D2 dropped in their usual first/second place finishing reputation finishing fourth in Cadet League A after only playing 4 games, winning 3 and losing just 1.

In the 2006/2007 season Glasow D2 took the top spot with the St Mirren Academy dropping into 5th position.Glasgow D2 played 15 games, won 14 and lost 1 while second place team The Buddies played 15, won 11 and lost 4. PSG Bullets failed to play any games finishing in last position behind developing team Cumbernauld who only won 2 games out of 15

Glasgow City won the cadet league again in the 2007/2008 season with an impressive record of 16 wins and no losses cementing their reputation as a power house of the cadet league in Strathclyde.The Reid Kerr Buddies again finished second behind Glasgow city and cumbernauld Chiefs recorded their highest finishing position in the cadet league for over 8 years finishing 3. the 2007/2008 season also saw the entry of the Ayrshire trailblazers and the Twilight Rocks

The 2008/2009 season saw the entry of the Dumbarton Dodgers to the cadet league while the Reid Kerr Buddies finished in the top spot. Glasgow City dropped down to third position while Troon started their reputation as the one of the top teams in the league by finishing second. The Twilight Rocks finished fourth a huge improvement from their first season in the 2007/2008 season.

Troon finished top seed in the league for the first time in the 2009/2010 season as Glasgow city dropped down to third place. This season saw the entry of Cukoo basketball club from the south side of Glasgow who finished fourth in this their first season in the league. This was also the season that Glasgow City saw division two national league success, coming first.

The 2010/2011 season saw the Renfrew Rocks enter the league once again and Troon win the league again.Cuckoo entered the league with two teams for the first time with cuckoo 1 finishing in third position and cukoo two finishing in fifth. Cumbernauld chiefs did originally enter the league but did not play a single game finishing in last position.
in the 2010/2011 season Troon won the Strathclyde league cup against Glasgow City .
In the 2011/2012 season Troon won the Strathclyde league cup against cukoo B.C
The league has produced many young stars that have played at international level and others have played for the Great Britain basketball team.
