Steve Hagerty

Stephen "Steve" Hagerty is an American businessman and candidate in the April 4, 2017 election to succeed Elizabeth Tisdahl as mayor of Evanston, Illinois.
Background
Hagerty is founder and CEO of Hagerty Consulting, an Evanston-based emergency management consulting firm that worked with municipalities following the 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina disasters. Hagerty has also served as a director for the Evanston-based First Bank and Trust since 2014. Prior to founding his firm, Hagerty had been employed by PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Hagerty has been involved in the Evanston community as a non-profit leader. He sits on the board of directors of youth development agency Youth & Opportunity United, and has held similar positions with the Evanston Chamber of Commerce and Evanston Community Foundation, among other organizations.
In 2015, Hagerty chaired a seven-member city committee to explore options for the use of the city-owned Harley-Clarke Mansion on the Lake Michigan shore. The issue was notable in Evanston for several years, after proposed solutions including occupancy by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the sale of the mansion to Jennifer Pritzker failed or were rejected by the City Council.
Hagerty resides in Evanston with his wife and two children.
Mayoral campaign
In September 2016, Hagerty announced that he would join the race for mayor of Evanston following incumbent Elizabeth Tisdahl's announcement that she would not seek a third term. Hagerty was joined in the race by two Evanston aldermen, Brian Miller and Mark Tendam, former Evanston Township supervisor Gary Gaspard, and activist Jeff Smith.
In December 2016, the Evanston Local Election Board held an initial hearing to address an Evanston citizen complaint that Hagerty's, Tendam's, and Gaspard's candidacies were invalid because they had filed petitions to appear on the ballot in the April general election, not the February primary. Hagerty's legal counsel argued the concerns were invalid because a primary is only required if more than four candidates run for office. The Board has yet to issue a decision on the complaint.
