Steve Bandoma is an artist, born in Kinshasa in Democratic Republic of the Congo, who lives and works in Cape Town in South Africa. In his works, Bandoma mainly reflects on the questions about post-colonial polotics in Africa. Life Born in Kinshasa (DRC) on September 27, 1981, Steve Bandoma started studying fine arts at the Academie des Beaux-Arts in Kinshasa in the year 2000 and gratuated with a Bachelor of Arts four years later, in 2004. In 2005, Bandoma moved to Cape Town in South Africa where he attended courses at the City Varsity School of Media & Creative Arts and graduated in Multimediation in 2006. Since then, Bandoma has been participating in various national and international exhibitions and won several awards. In 2010 he also co-curated the AMANI Art Festival in Cape Town and in 2011 he founded and still directs "Quoi de Neuf!", a Contemporary Arts Center in Kinshasa. Bandoma today lives and works in Cape Town. Work philosophy In his works, Steve Bandoma mainly uses found objects, selects images from high gloss fashion magazines and makes sometimes paper out of the rest in order to breathe new life into them. By this he transforms the inherent excess of these objects, images and materials into artworks, which in turn also questions and challenges the validity of their existence. The resulting works are a visual and dynamic reincarnation of our sometimes meaningless world of images and objects of excessive desire and affluence. He states: "My work interrogates humanity, violence, global warming, politics, religion, fashion and race in a provocative, humorous manner. With installations, performance, photography, and clippings from contemporary glossy publications I question globalization and materiality with a refined aesthetic."
