The TENSIXTIES (band) was formed in 2009 by a group of expat musicians who met in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The band's music is a "refreshing and optimistic" mixture of Indie rock and New wave styles, with a heavy Soul influence. The TENSIXTIES are known for their interactive shows and theatrics. They commonly wear matching outfits at their shows such as; morphsuits, tracksuits and scrubs. They have released two EPs to date in Argentina (Swine Flu hype, Alto voltage sessions) History Formation Songwriter 'Gibbs' formed the idea of ‘the TENSIXTIES’, while writing and playing in open mike venues in and around his hometown (Liverpool). Early In 2009 he quit his job and decided to travel around South America. After meeting with a bunch of like-minded fellow musicians in Buenos Aires, his idea was finally realised. The bands name is a reference from the famous Battle of Hastings in 1066. The bands logo and hand sign are borrowed from the Northern soul era. Swine flu hype (2009) "The 1060s burst onto the Buenos Aires music scene back in 2009,"where they started playing in smaller venues across town and began to build up a reputation amongst locals and the many foreign students that lived in Buenos Aires. The band then won a local "Battle of the Bands"competition. With some of the members having to head back home for college, they decided to try and capture some of the songs in the studio. Through a friendly local taxi driver they were introduced to 'Fernando Goin' a local producer and respected blues musician. With his help they recorded their first EP naming it Swine flu Hype. It was recorded in a live setting using an old analog system. Alto voltage (2010-2011) After returning from a small tour of the States, the band regrouped and continued where they had left off in Argentina during 2010. "Concentrating on up-tempo live performances, the band quickly caught on in the Buenos Aires underground music scene, playing regularly with up and coming local acts" in venues such as M.O.D club, Ultra, ZUR, Giers, Fusion, Pagana, Club SICK, amongst other. Late in 2010, they decided to put out another EP with some of their new material. Searching for a producer, they were introduced to 'Jao' from Alto Voltaje Studios. With his help they recorded 7 tracks in one session, settling on the final 4 for their . It was released Jan 20th 2011 on CD format and digitally on the bands website. After disaster stuck in Japan early April 2011, and with the support of Bulkka.com, the band arranged the Buenos Aires "Gig for Japan" which raised relief funds to aid the Japan disaster via the Red Cross. The band have also been working with local orphanage charity 'Music is My Sanctuary' for a number of events.
