Alex Emsley is a South African artist. He was born in 1973. Emsley works in the traditions of still life painting and portraiture. He works in such a way as to re-contemporize these significant genres. In his still life works he arranges random objects and depicts them with incredible and obsessive detail. Emsley's particular use of acidic colour transforms objects into uncanny visions. These objects become so defiant that they almost exist without the presence of human life. Emsley has exhibited at the Joburg Art Fair in Johannesburg (2011) and was part of the group show entitled, Mechanics and mystery of perception. Emsley lives and works in Cape Town. More information regarding the Emsley's work can be found on his website. Emsley exhibits at Brundyn & Gonsalves in Cape Town.
