Stepan Vdovine

Stepan Vdovine is a Canadian politician, currently serving his second term as a school trustee on the Maple Ridge - Pitt Meadows Board of Education, British Columbia.
Background
Stepan Vdovine was first elected to the Maple Ridge - Pitt Meadows Board of Education in November 2005 and re-elected in November 2008.
Throughout his 4 years as a school trustee, Vdovine has been active in numerous advocacy projects.
Vdovine is a founding member of the provincial TAG (trustee action group) network, a group of trustees working to strengthen provincial public education advocacy.
Stepan grew up in the Fraser Valley and since 2005 has divided his time between residences in Maple Ridge and Vancouver. He now lives full time in Vancouver’s West End neighbourhood. Stepan’s academic interests are public policy, labour relations and international affairs. He is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in political science. He also publishes his blog on the issues in public education
Vision Vancouver
In November 2007 Vdovine joined Vision Vancouver Education Committee - a group charged with the task of writing policy platform for the party's first school board campaign. In June 2008, Vdovine announced his candidacy for Vision's school board slate in the 2008 municipal election, running as part of the Vision Education Slate with Patti Bacchus, Helesia Luke and Mike Lombardi. At the September 20, 2008 nomination meeting, Vdovine failed to secure the nomination, coming in the fifth place, only eight votes behind Ken Clement
On September 23, Vdovine announced his defeat after an automatic recount, where Clement's lead narrowed down to six votes. Subsequently, Vdovine went on to work for Vision's landslide campaign as a school board campaign co-ordinator. In March 2009. Vdovine was elected to the Vision Vancouver executive, on a two year term .
