Stan J, born Stanley C. Jones Jr., is an American born rapper, song writer, music producer, entrepreneur, and radio show host. He is also the owner and executive director of his own music label, Silver Diamond Entertainment. To date, he is the first known African American to host an all English speaking radio show on a Japanese radio station.
Biography Stanley C. Jones Jr. was born in October 1982, in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. He was born to the parents of Stanley C. Jones, Sr. and Carla D. Jones. His father was a special forces operative for the US Airforce and while his mother was a house wife and persued after graduate studies. At the age of one, his parents divorced and Jones spent the majority of his youth being raised by his mother. In the early 90's, upon his mother's remarriage, Jones and his mother relocated to Panama City, Florida, where he attended his local schools and begin to extend his interest in the Hip Hop culture. Jones attended Everitt Middle School, where first attempted to display his skills as a rapper in an eighth grade talent show. After being heckled and booed of stage by a crowd of his peers, his interest and passion in the fields of rap and entertainment became even greater. During his first year attending Rutherford High School in Florida, Jones begin to seriously view the options of a career centered around music.
Though he was a fan of Hip Hop from an early age, it was at the age of 16, after moving to live with his biological father, that the young Jones begin to take a look at the business side of the music industry. Relocating to the state of New Jersey put Jones in different environment where larger cities such as Philadelphia and New York were not to far away. Capitilizing on all opportunities, he begin working with talents such as Talib Kareem, from the R&B group Imajin, as well as others. Upon relocating back to Florida, Jones would use his newfound knowledge and abilities to produce tracks and work with local artist around his area. At the age of 19 he also added to his experiences by managing a local rock band. Jones was also the youngest affiliate of the Bay County Chamber of Commerce also in Panama City. While completing high school, Jones managed to balance his two passions of football and music, however, upon graduation he decided not to persue football any further, but instead chose to persue music. After various failed attempts to be signed by either major or independent labels, Jones decided on starting what was the early developmental stages of his current label, Silver Diamond Entertainment.
In an untraditional move for any business owner, Jones relocated to the country of Japan, in the fall of 2002, in an effort of building and establishing Silver Diamond Entertainment as a multi cultural international company. In Japan, he released various independent projects as well as gaining frequent play in various clubs throughout Tokyo and radio broadcasts. It was also during this time that Jones adapted the moniker and stage name of Stan J. Since then, he has worked with a variety of both major and indie artists and producers while further establishing his company. Stan J continues furthering the establishment of Silver Diamond Entertainment as well as a number of other business ventures in Japan and the United States.
Personal Life Stan J is married to Akiko Kanai Jones, his wife of Japanese descent. Together they have a total of three children. The Jones family currently resides at their residents in Kurihama Japan. In addition to family interest, Stan J also enjoys movies, video games, photography, and graphic design. He has a tremendous fascination with the culture of Ancient Japan. It is also rumored, that Stan J is a huge fan of American based sports entertainment company, WWE and has been a fan since childhood.
Current Activity Currently, Stan J continues work as the owner and executive director of Silver Diamond Entertainment. Among other projects he is now working on an English and Japanese project which includes collaborations with both major and independent artists from Japan and America. The project, his full length debut album, is projected for release in summer of 2008. In addition to the daily operations of his music label, Stan J is also involved in a variety of other ventures, most of which are current works in progress. Among these works are a graphic design company, which originated from his love of photography and graphic design. He is also the host of his own radio show "The Stan J Hip Hop and R&B Hour" which is a weekly broadcast aired on Japanese radio. Stan J is later looking to extend his company operations into the areas of film, promotional apparel, music distribution, and periodical publishing.
