Spy Killer

Spy Killer is an espionage, action/adventure novel by author L. Ron Hubbard. It was first published in April 1936 in the popular magazine, Five Novels Monthly.
PLOT INTRODUCTION:
The story follows the adventures of Kurt Reid, who as mate of the tanker Rangoon, jumps ship to avoid a murder charge. Winding his way through Shanghai, China, Reid encounters a beautiful Russian spy, as well as a sinister Chinese General Lin Wang, with his Death Squad of executioners, all culminating in a surprise twist at the end.
Although Reid is a formidable character in his own right and always itching for a fight, he finds himself facing death with every decision he makes. Should he go into hiding from the Chinese government or take his chances with the Russian beauty “Varinka Savischna.” He decides to accept her offer of help in exchange for his assistance in her crusade against the Chinese government but soon finds himself way over his head.
PUBLICATION HISTORY:
Even though Spy Killer was written and published in 1936, it still maintains the flavor of the cloak-and-dagger world of espionage and intrigue, where everything and everyone are not what they appear to be.
Spy Killer is from the Golden Age series which Galaxy Press started re-publishing in 2008. The book has been re-released as a trade paperback, with French flaps, glossaries, and author bio. It's also available as a full-cast audiobook with a complete gamut of music and cinema quality sound effects, downloadable from iTunes and Audible.
The Spy Killer novel is one in a library of 80 stories out of the Golden Age Stories collection published by Galaxy Press which presents the fiction stories written by L. Ron Hubbard from the heyday of storytelling in the 1930s and 1940s. In these eighty volumes, are included 153 stories, of tales representing every imaginable genre: science fiction, fantasy, western, mystery, thriller, horror, even romance—action.
Although back in the 1920s and 1930s the pulps were printed on cheap paper, they boasted prominent writers such as Isaac Asimov, Dashiell Hammett, Agatha Christie, Arthur C. Clark, Robert A. Heinlein, H.P. Lovecraft, Rudyard Kipling as well as L. Ron Hubbard to name a few. These writers have influenced our society in ways they may not have dreamed of at the time and we owe them a tremendous debt of gratitude. Some of our most beloved characters were born out of the pulps such as; Tarzan, Zorro, Indiana Jones, Spiderman, Buck Rogers, Batman, Doc Savage and The Shadow etc. These and many more characters live on in movies and television and have helped to give creative license to new aspiring writers and artists.

One of the most violent and darker stories from this era. In a story that is non-stop twists and turns, and secret identities as well as identity changes, Hubbard keeps you wondering what will happen next in this contant thriller.

The recordings I've tried so far are just terrific. They are a professionally produced combination of traditional narrated audiobooks (with narration deftly handled by R.F. Daley) and old-time radio, with skilled actors playing the characters (often multiple rolls) and genre-specific music and sound effects rounding out the experience. Author L. Ron Hubbard fills Spy Killer with action and suspense in a land where death waits as a consequence for nearly every decision - especially inaction. But he also offers up a love story that adds an extra layer to events to this wonderful example of the "yellow peril" genre.
