Shatrughan Sahu

Shatrughan Sahu (also known as Shatrughna Sahu) is an Indian politician and social activist. He has been the President of the Bihar State of Aam Aadmi Party from 21 September 2018 to 4 March 2020. He was succeeded by Sushil Kumar Singh in March, 2020. Sahu is the first President of Aam Aadmi Party's Bihar state unit. He was born to Late Somari devi and Late Sadhu Sah on 7 February 1975 in East Champaran, Bihar. He contested Lok Sabha election in 2014 from Sheohar constituency of Bihar.
Shatrughan is active in politics since his primary school days. He became Secretary of the student's assembly of Lok Dal in East Champaran. He also became a member of the National Executive of Chhatra Janata Dal, the student's wing of Janata Dal party and later he was elected National General Secretary. He became the National Vice President of Yuva Janta Dal, the youth wing of . He resigned from the membership of in 2008 and turned into a social activist. He joined Bihar Navnirman Samiti as Central President and continued to work for society till 2014. He worked to draw the attention to government and people on issues plight of public interest of Bihar.
He again joined politics after taking inspiration from Anna Movement for Lokpal Bill in Delhi in 2011. Subsequently, after the Anna Movement, noted activists including Arvind Kejriwal, Kumar Vishwas, Shazia Ilmi, and Manish Sisodia, etc. formed Aam Aadmi Party in 2012. Sahu was also a founder member and soon he was made the North Bihar Convenor for four years. He contested in Lok Sabha elections in 2014 on Aam Aadmi Party ticket from Sheohar constituency and he was defeated by BJP's Rama Devi. Rama Devi secured 3,72,506 votes. In November 2019, he met a dangerous accident while going to attend a party meeting in Sasaram district of Bihar. He got brain injury but he survived.
Shatrughan Sahu announced that the Aam Aadmi Party will contest the 2020 Bihar Assembly polls for the first time.
