Severn Link is a ferry operating company which intends to provide ferry services across the Bristol Channel in England and Wales. The first route planned would link Ilfracombe with Swansea. The passenger service was expected to launch at Easter 2010, but talks to find a new investor were still underway in autumn 2010 and the launch was delayed until 2011. There have been no news updates on the company website since 12 July 2011, which suggests that the project will not proceed. The route would be served by 40 metre "Flying Cat" passenger ferries capable of running at 34 knots and carrying up to 360 seated passengers. The journey by ferry is expected to take around 50 minutes compared to the current 3.5 hours by road. Future plans There may be a new ferry service linking Ilfracombe with Cardiff, docking at Penarth. Severn Link are planning on a more direct link whereby the ferry would dock in Cardiff. Other ferry services being considered by Severn Link are between Penarth and Minehead, and between Porthcawl and Ilfracombe.
