The SERP-Chem International Master Course is a two-year Erasmus Mundus Master's course based at the University of Paris-Sud in France. The course focusses on chemistry and physical chemistry; SERP chem stands for Surface, Electro, Radiation and Photo Chemistry. Participating Universities The SERP-Chem consortium includes four universities: the University of Paris-Sud in France, the University of Genoa in Italy, the and the University of Porto in Portugal. Students attend lectures in at least two of the four partner universities during the course of their studies. Academic Focus The SERP-Chem degree aims to train graduate-level students in the various experimental and theoretical tools in chemistry and physical chemistry. Areas in which students can specialise include development of renewable energies and "no-energy" chemistry based on photon-induced reactions, use of radiation induced processes to optimize applications, surface treatment and modification, and development of compounds for catalysis aimed at enhancing the selectivity and the efficiency of chemical and industrial processes. Each university within the consortium provides a different speciality. Summer School In addition to the main areas of study, the degree also includes a two week summer school, in which students learn a number of soft skills related to areas such as communication, patent law, and safety at work.
