UnBuyThat

UnBuyThat is a first of its kind peer-to-peer marketplace dedicated to the buying and selling of reservations and experiences and bills itself as a StubHub for services with a shelf life . Several key differentiators set UnBuyThat apart from its competition in the two-sided marketplace space like a concierge transfer service to help users transfer reservations. The site also guarantees that all listings have been vetted and certified prior to listing. The site went live in New York City in January 2013. UBT prides itself on being a part of the new, peer-centered share economy trend known as collaborative consumption.
History
After struggling to find last-minute accommodation at a hotel or bed and breakfast, Neil St. Clair and Melissa Dixon (now Melissa St. Clair) decided to create a forum in which users could sell and buy reservations.
They completed an accelerator program through the Yale Entrepreneurial Institute (YEI) in the summer of 2012, and decided to expand UnBuyThat into a marketplace for buying and selling both reservations and experiences.
While at YEI, the UBT team identified the following 9 categories of experiences and reservations which are currently featured on the site:
# adventure and sporting - Dedicated to items like white water rafting and adventure tours
# daily deals and gift cards - Users buy and sell their unused (i.e. Groupon and Living Social) daily deal coupons as well as gift cards.
# food and beverage - For restaurant reservations and other functions
# health and beauty - Spa and salon appointments for treatments like massages
# lessons and skills - Users are encouraged to list their own skillsets, like music or foreign language lessons, which can be shared with others.
# lodging - For prepaid hotel rooms and reservations
# personal services - Unskilled services category
# travel - Related to transportation; things like ride sharing pre-paid, transferable tickets
# other - A catch-all category for anything not covered in the above 8 categories.
The site launched in New York City in early January 2013, at which time most listings were in the northeast.
