Santiago Chávez

Jose Santiago Chávez (born August 5, 1995) is a Mexican professional baseball catcher for the Miami Marlins organization. He was signed by the Oakland Athletics as an international free agent in 2011.
Career
Oakland Athletics
On November 16, 2011, Chávez signed with the Oakland Athletics as an international free agent. He made his professional debut with the Dominican Summer League Athletics. He returned to the DSL Athletics in 2013, and hit .223/.243/.259 in 30 games.
In 2014, Chávez split the year between the Low-A Vermont Lake Monsters, Single-A Beloit Snappers, and Double-A Midland RockHounds, accumulating a slash line of .172/.240/.192 with no home runs and 8 RBI. Chávez spent the following season split between Beloit and the High-A Stockton Ports, posting a .132/.190/.162 slash with no homers and 6 RBI. He returned to Beloit for the 2016 season, where he hit .207/.246/.243 with 15 RBI in 80 games.
For the 2017 season, Chávez returned to Stockton and slashed .192/.240/.287 with his first 2 professional home runs and 11 RBI. In 2018, Chávez split the season between Midland and Stockton, batting a cumulative .241/.295/.340 with career-highs in home runs (3) and RBI (16). Chávez elected free agency on November 3, 2018.
Miami Marlins
On November 5, 2018, Chávez signed a minor league contract with the Miami Marlins organization. He spent the 2019 season with the Double-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, with whom he batted .173/.235/.206 with 1 home run and 16 RBI in 79 games.
On December 18, 2019, Chávez re-signed with the Marlins on a new minor league contract. Chávez did not play in a game in 2020 due to the cancellation of the minor league season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. On July 10, 2020, he was added to the Marlins’ 60-man player pool for the abbreviated season, but did not make an appearance for the team. On November 2, 2020, he elected free agency.
On January 19, 2021, Chávez again re-signed with Miami on a new minor league contract. He was assigned to Jacksonville, now a Triple-A team, to begin the 2021 season.
