S. A. H. Rizvi

S A H Rizvi (1949-2005) was an Indian mathematician, specializing in medieval mathematics and astronomy. He was born in Varanasi and died in Hyderabad on December 18, 2005. He studied at Lucknow University. Later, inspired by W. H. Abdi, he showed keen interest in the field of mathematics, philosophy, and astronomy. It was under Professor Abdi's guidance that he received his doctorate in history of science from Cochin University of science and technology. CUSAT 1984
He worked on the development of mathematics ideas and physical concepts in India during medieval period mainly using primary sources in Persian and Arabic and correlating them with Sanskrit works.
He had knowledge of many classical languages including Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit, English, and Russian. Hence was among a few scholars with an expertise in history of exact science.
He had been engaged in historical and philosophical studies concerning science and technology.he worked on project sponsored by The Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi. to study an important mathematical text Khulasat-al-hisab of Baha al -din Amuli, used by advanced students of mathematics during the medieval. Most of his contributions were acknowledged and published by esteemed organizations
of national and international repute; like INSA, Indian Mathematical Society, Bharat Ganita Parishad, Indian Journal for history of science.
