Chuck Easttom

William C. Easttom II (also known as Chuck Easttom) is a computer scientist and author of several computer science books. He is well known on the internet for his comments on God and Religion, found in Wikiquotes.
Biography
Easttom was born to a military family and spent much of his childhood in various locations including Thailand and Europe. After high school and a term of enlistment in the US Army he went to college where he was named to the National Dean's List. He has Bachelor's and Master's degrees as well as additional graduate studies in mathematics and computer science. Since college he has pursued a career in computer science that has included teaching, software engineering, network security, and authoring several computer books. During that time he has been a frequent guest speaker on computer science topics.
* Easttom has authored several computer science books on topics ranging from Linux to to network security. His textbooks on network security have been translated into several languages and are used in universities around the world. Two of those books are university textbooks from Prentice Hall's Pearson Education branch:

Intro to Security

Network Defense And Counter Measures

* Easstom's computer science books have been cited in numerous research papers including
1. Adding information assurance to the curriculum - Journal of Computing Sciences in Colleges Volume 22 , Issue 2 (December 2006) Richard Weiss
2. Taming the diversity of information assurance & security - Journal of Computing Sciences in Colleges Volume 23 , Issue 4 (April 2008) J. Paul Myers, Sandra Riela
3. Effect of Windows XP Firewall on Network Issues in Informing Science and Information Technology Volume 4, 2007 Al-Rawi(King Faisal University Saudi Arabia) ,Lansari(Zayed University UAE)

6. Practical computer security: a new service course based upon the national strategy to secure cyberspace David W. Valentine
* He has also been an expert witness on various court cases involving computer related topics
* Easttom worked with the Computer Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) as a subject matter expert helping to create their certification. He also worked with CompTIA on their , , and certifications.
Quotations by Easttom
Religion
Easttom has been quoted many times on different issues regarding religion. One particular quote by . Easttom has gained quite a bit of notoriety on the web:
God says do what you wish, but make the wrong choice and you will be tortured for eternity in hell. That's not free will. It's like a man telling his girlfriend, do what you wish, but if you choose to leave me, I will track you down and blow your brains out. When a man says this we call him a psychopath. When god says the same we call him "loving" and build churches in his honor.

Easttom has also been very public in his atheism and his reasons for being an atheist.
Creationism
Easttom has written a treatise on the creationism-evolution debate. This treatise has gained quite a bit of popularity on the web.
He has been quoted as saying:
"Young earth creationism is essentially the position that all of modern science, 90% of living scientists and 98% of living biologists, all major university biology departments, every major science journal, the American Academy of Sciences, and every major science organization in the world, are all wrong regarding the origins and development of life....but one particular tribe of uneducated, bronze aged, goat herders got it exactly right."

I am not really sure what his belief in God has to do with Information Security? If he hates God so much than just stop talking about him so much. What is crazier? Someone who believes in something and speaks about it or someone who doesn't believe in it, but keeps on speaking about it? If it's not true than just ignore it, don't let it eat your lunch. If I hear a story am I more likely to believe those that were there or nearby or those that heard it 10th hand? Carbon dating is an inexact science used to justify a scientific communities faith in atheism. It sounds like Easstom is just jealous he's not God, someone should tell him he isn't. The reason the majority of scientists don't believe in God and push that agenda is because of who scientists are and who teaches them. The personality type that generally joins the scientific community are isolationist, who are big headed and always assume they are right. Believing in God or worse yet submitting to God's will, doesn't fit that mind set. I am an engineer and work with engineers. They are very much like kids trying to be alternative. In their attempts to be different and think outside the box they tend to look and sound the same as everyone else trying to do the same thing. They call it "group think". The very thing they try to use against those that believe in God. Mr. Easttom, God does love you and left a book behind to help you in your life. If you choose to ignore it, well that might make you less educated than a goat herder. If society has the ability to create rules that help govern peoples lives and to keep them safe, shouldn't God have that same ability? If you think no, than that would make you an anarchist and I think once again less educated than goat herders. Sorry, knowing about 0's and 1's does not make you a deity, just a nerd. Since the origin of this page was about a book on Information/Network Security let's combine the two. God is trying to create a network that is clean and free from all the viruses, worms, trojans, etc. that are out there (Heaven). He is encouraging everyone to install anti-virus software and run a competent firewall. Those that don't cannot be part of the network, because it causes everyone else's hard work to go for nought. So by not obeying the result is destruction of your computer, because you have chosen to not follow directions and be with all the psychopaths, that chose not to run anti-virus and a firewall and thought that nothing bad would happen. Why is there an impending doom? Why should I have to install anti-virus and a firewall? If you are a computer scientist I am sure you are quite familiar with comic books. Superman wouldn't be Superman without Lex. Satan is using you and your fellow non anti-virus folks as a zombie botnet and eventually there will be a cyber war and only those that are protected behind the network will be saved. For those that have and will die before the cyber war the only hard drives that have all their information stored on the clean network are those that were running anti-virus with a firewall and are free of viruses and malware. Science can be used to explain anything, even goat herding.

Josh, if you want anyone to read your rant about why atheists don't exist or whatever mumbo jumbo you've got going on there, you should use a few line breaks here and there.

Just saying. I mean your tired points have been shown to be invalid time and time again but at least present them nicely. I could hardly get through the first couple sentences and that's not my fault, it's yours.
