Reuben Kaur Sarin (also known as Ruben Sarin or Rubin Sarin)is an international theatre actor, dancer, model,polymath, philanthropist and social influencer of Indian descent. Often called the Audrey Hepburn of Asia in the world of international theatre ,Ruben is one of the most celebrated,respected and popular young theatre stars of Asia known for her forte in musical theatre.She was the only actor from India amongst many established contenders who was selected at a very young age of 14 to perform with the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Brooke Shields, Jane Fonda among others for Eve Enslers much celebrated campaign V-DAY, a movement to stop violence against women. Born in New Delhi, India to news anchor Avinash Kaur Sarin and Businessman Manjit Singh Sarin, Ruben was inspired to act when she won accolades and awards in various inter-school competitions. She came into notability when she was chosen as a 13 year old as the youngest participant from Asia to make a presentation on "V-Day: A movement to stop violence against women " and perform Eve Ensler's Vagina Monologues at Madison Square Garden in 2001. She made a thought-provoking presentation and performed "Vagina Monologues" with the distinguished company of Oprah Winfrey, Brooke Shields and Jane Fonda amongst others. <ref name="vday.org"/> Sarin has been a Kathak Dancer since childhood with Pandit Shambhu Maharaj's Kathak Academy alongside training with Kathak exponent Roshan Kumari. She has also trained in primary ballet and attended Martha Graham Dance Company and the Broadway Dance Center . Sarin trained in acting with Hollywood director Jack Garfein in "The Art Of Acting" at HB Studio, New York who called her an extra-ordinarily gifted talent. Early life Born and brought up in Delhi to Indian News-anchor Avinash Kaur Sarin and businessman Manjit Singh Sarin. Ruben was encouraged by her parents to perform since childhood when a school principal spotted her talent when she won two best actress awards for playing the role of Anne Frank in The Diary of Anne Frank and the lead in a Sanskrit play in High School. It was further explored when she was cast in various plays by Lushin Dubey and Bubbles Sabharwal under their banner "Theatre World". She went on to do a lot of youth theatre and several plays with the likes of Arvind Gaur, Zulekha Allana among others performing from everywhere from India Habitat Centre and Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts to door and street plays in Delhi. She also trained with the National School of Drama in her early years as a teenager and attended workshops at the Juilliard School as a young adult .She has also won the Europe Theatre Prize for her take on Elphaba in the runaway Broadway success Wicked amongst the several notable theatre credits and awards on her resume. She is a trained stage actress and stated that she prefers performing on stage to film roles. As a young adult,she started getting acting opportunities at the age of 15 in film and television,but she let go of it to follow her own path and grow as a classically trained actor As a teenager and a budding artist,Ruben also lent her voice to various radio advertisements including Tata Tea and various social campaigns Currently, Ruben is busy with her international theatre ventures in London and New York apart from being actively involved in the Global Citizen Network and the Eve Enslers endeavour "V-Day :A movement to stop violence against women." Ruben attended St.Thomas and later Springdales school, New Delhi where she participated in various school plays and competitions. She went on to graduate from Lady Shri Ram College (New Delhi) in Economics Honors in first class. She then went to earn a Masters in Economics from the University of Mumbai and topped the University as well.
