Roeland Paardekooper

Roeland Pieterszoon Paardekooper (Eindhoven, 17 March 1970) is a Dutch archaeologist.
Biography
Roeland Paardekooper is the son of Piet Paardekooper, a professor of linguistics. Roeland Paardekooper graduated as master of arts 1997 at Leiden University in archaeology, specializing in European prehistory. In 2012 he completed a PhD at the University of Exeter. His thesis was on archaeological open air museums.
From 1981 Paardekooper is involved in the Eindhoven Museum. He wrote a large part of the EU project liveARCH. This Culture 2000 project was about improving archaeological open-air museums in eight different countries. He also co-authored the follow-up project, OpenArch. In the years 1995-2003 Paardekooper played a leading role in the expansion of the Oxfam shop at Burgsteeg in Leiden. Paardekooper is cofounder and current director of EXARC, a International Council of Museums (ICOM) affiliated organisation themed with archaeological open-air museums and experimental archaeology. The association has over 150 members in about 30 countries.
In 2012 Paardekooper was decorated as knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. He was the youngest decorated person in the province of North Brabant to receive the decoration.
