Robert Abbinanti is a former amateur heavyweight boxer. Abbinanti fought in local Chicago amateur events such as the Golden Gloves and Chicago Park District tournaments. After his boxing career he was involved in local politics and union management in Chicago. Abbinanti trained at La Follete park in Chicago, and was trained by coach Pat La Cassa. Other activities Mr. Abbinanti was involved with the 36th Ward Regular Democratic Organization on the Northwest Side back in 1983. The boundaries of the bungalow belt ward brush up against O’Hare Airport. Once the political fiefdom of Alderman Louis Farina until Farina was convicted on bribery charges in the early 1980s, it remains one of the strongest cogs in the old Democratic Machine of legend. Voter turnout in the 36th Ward always runs proportionately higher than in other areas of the city, because of the well-oiled political apparatus. |
