River Grove School

River Grove School is the one and only school of River Grove School District 85.5. The school's boundaries encompass 1.75 square miles. The school is located on the southwest corner of Grand Avenue and Thatcher Avenue in downtown River Grove, Illinois.
The first River Grove School building was erected in 1869. This school building also served as a meeting hall, a Sunday school, and a church. After 50 years of use, in 1929 a new stone structure was built to accommodate the growing population of River Grove. Additions were made to the new structure in 1953, 1973, and most recently in 1999.
Approximately 600 students from preschool through eighth grade fill the halls of this school along with seventy-five teachers, administrators, and staff. Subject area specialists teach classes in grades 6th through 8th. The remaining grades are, for the most part, self-contained classrooms. In addition to a comprehensive standard curriculum, River Grove School's programs include Special Education (resource and self-contained); T.P.I. (Transitional Program of Instruction); Title I; full-day Kindergarten; Fine Arts; Band; Choir; and Speech. Technology is integrated into all curricular areas. River Grove School's Learning Resource Center offers students a collection of over 15,000 books. Adjacent to the LRC is a well-maintained and state-of-the-art computer lab. The school also offers a Before and After School Program.
